WOW! What a match it was against Warwickshire at New Road.

Local derbies are always exciting affairs, but that one was incredible.

It was a big surprise to everyone that more than 600 runs were scored in a day at New Road and the side batting second scored over 300 to win the game.

We had a club day yesterday and everyone came in with a smile on their face and a bounce in their step.

To be fair to our groundsman Tim Packwood, who gets a lot of criticism for the pitches, he produced a great one on Sunday. It looked quite ugly, but certainly played very well.

The game was a magnificent spectacle for the spectators and the massive positive for us was the opening partnership between Vikram Solanki and Phil Jaques.

They built an unbelievable platform at the top of the order which allowed the other guys to come in and win the game. They did not panic because of the big total, they just played themselves in.

We were always well ahead of the targets we had set ourselves for the run-chase. Both of the guys have had a little bit of indifferent form this season, but they have been working really hard to put things right and to see that pay off was very pleasing for me.

The result is testament to how well we batted, but it was still a difficult task when Ben Smith went in and he played a terrific cameo to score 44 not out to help see us home.

To chase down a score like that, when most people didn't think it was possible, reminded me of how we managed to pursue a big score against Surrey at the Oval last season.

That win was the catalyst for our successful season last year and there is no reason why the win over Warwickshire could not do the same for us this year.

Stephen Moore has worked really hard at his one-day game, but opening the batting in one-day cricket is also one of Vikram's strengths so we decided to make a change.

However, someone like Stephen is going to be a talented opening batsman in both forms of the game.

Moeen Ali's batting was a huge positive for us to take from the Friends Provident Trophy defeat at Durham.

He played very well against a decent attack and kept his composure while wickets were falling around him.

The bowlers have had two tough games recently - they have bowled with too much width, but I think they were a bit better against Warwickshire. The bowlers will carry on working hard and trying to keep the scores down.

Doug Bollinger is desperate to do well and he is trying his hardest. He is well aware he has missed a lot of cricket through injury but he is keen to get back and take wickets.

We've got a lot of confidence in him. He was feeling his way back into it against Sussex but he is turning the corner now and I'm sure the wickets will flow for him.

Kyle Hogg has had a tricky two games to bowl in since joining us when it has not been nice for the bowlers.

He has fitted in well into the dressing room, knows his job and I'm sure we'll see some good performances from him.

We are still assessing Matt Mason day-by-day and sometimes it is difficult to put a date on when a player will return from injury but hopefully he isn't too far away.
