JOHN Margretts and Rob Powell claimed victory in Worcester Golf & Country Club's Dick Cup after 200 members and guests battled strong winds on a difficult course.

The pair, who are both members, finished on two-under-par. It was a better-ball bogey format and scores below par were few and far between.

But Margretts and Powell narrowly beat Edward Coom-ber and Alistair Smith, who finished one under. Graham Smith and North Worcester-shire member Rob Hough were third on level par.

Gordon Bailey, playing off six, romped away with the May medal, carding the day's best gross score of 67 (nett 61). He was followed in second place, six shots behind, by Anthony Ottway with 69-2-67 while Shaun Perry took third spot with 77-9-68.

Jim Fisher won Division Two with 80-13-67. Richard Jones (81-13-68) finished in second place, narrowly beating Dave Hawthorn (82-14-68) by virtue of countback.

Wayne Burnett-Jones, playing off 16, won Division Three with a gross 82, nett 66. He pipped Phil Smith (84-16-66) thanks to the countback system. Greg Edwards (95-28-67) finished one shot further back.

Gerald Croft also had a moment to remember when he recorded a hole-in-one on the 149-yard par three sixth hole.

Meanwhile, Worcester Golf & Country Club's junior section continue to thrive under the guidance of John Day. Any interested young golfers keen on joining the club should contact the secretary on 01905-422555.

The junior section's monthly medal was won by Max Begley (95-28-67). Josh Bryan came runner-up thanks to the countback system, carding 115-46-69.

S Gerrard-Jones was pushed into third place with 78-9-69, but had the consolation of recording the day's lowest gross score.
