WORCESTER Lawyers secured the European Lawyers' Cricket Cup at King's School when they beat the Society of German Lawyers by 129 runs.

Home captain Richard Wilkes won the toss and chose to bat but was a worried man as the German attack reduced the Lawyers to 66-5.

Simon Marks and Robin Humphries looked well set before falling to fine catches for 20 and 12 respectively.

Wilkes and Phil Mackie steadied the ship and shared a stand of 151 in 19 overs.

Mackie holed out to long-on for 66 and Wilkes was bowled by a straight delivery for 47.

Despite the loss of both quickly, the lawyers managed to keep up the momentum.

Kiernan Cunningham and Stuart Bailey shared a 10th-wicket stand of 66 before Cunningham was stumped for 29 off the last ball.

Bailey was 28 not out as the hosts made 286 in 50 overs.

The German captain picked up 4-62 with his old-fashioned lobs and their leg-spinner ended with 3-35.

The Germans made a good start, despite Kevin Davis and Bailey bowling accurate opening spells.

Mackie removed both danger-men and finished with 2-15 from eight overs.

Davis managed 2-8 and Bailey mopped up the German tail with 4-18. The Germans were eventually all out for 157.

There is talk of a lawyers' world cup next year involving teams from Worcester, Germany, India and Australia.
