HAVING failed to post more than 87 runs in an innings on the way to losing all four games this season, you could forgive Cutnall Green Seconds for not expecting too much when they were bowled out cheaply again against Hagley.

The Green did post 137 all out in the Worcestershire League Division Three match but that still represented an achievable total.

When Hagley raced to 101-0 off 25 overs, it seemed as though defeat number five was close at hand. But brothers Brian and Tony Lavell thought differently.

The medium-pace siblings, used as the sixth and seventh bowlers by captain Gary Gough, amazingly took eight wickets for two runs between them in the next 4.4 overs to snatch the most unlikely of wins.

Although Hagley only had nine players, the Lavell brothers performed remarkably with Brian taking 4-2 and Tony 4-0 as Hagley collapsed from 101-0 to 103 all out.

Green's fantastic turn-around scooped them our team of the week award and they win a box of Fearnley cricket balls, worth £90.

Skipper Gough said: "We went into the game on the back of some very poor results, but when we posted 137 we thought we at least had something to try and defend.

"Their two openers batted well to get to 101 without loss at the drinks break and things weren't looking too good, but it all started in the first over after that.

"They only added two more runs before Brian and Tony bowled them all out. It was amazing and I've never seen anything like it. They don't really bowl a lot for us, but they will certainly be having a few more overs after that!

"We were delighted to win the game and our season starts here."
