OMBERSLEY moved up to second in Birmingham League Division Three on Monday with an exciting winning draw against table-topping St Georges from Telford.

St Georges batted first and the continual rain interruptions meant their innings was still in progress at 6.35pm when captain Matt Tilt declared.

Tilt contributed 39 and Steve Taylor an excellent 84 not out from 213-5 in 48 overs.

Ombersley had a poor day in the rain with several catches dropped and only Neil Slade emerged with credit, bowling 16 overs and taking 3-64.

The sporting declaration left Ombersley 27 overs to get to 120 to claim the winning draw.

But they made the worst possible start, losing the in-form Joey Robinson for a duck in the first over.

Steady progress from Phil Burdon (18), Duncan Catterall (61no) and Simon Mason, with a rapid 25, got them into a strong position at 82-3.

But St Georges' overseas star Bachani bowled his slow left-armers consistently and ended with 3-46 from his 13 overs.

The village team edged to the winning draw target and had only two balls to spare as Joph Young and Tom Brain perished.

But the consistent Catterall was the mainstay of their innings as he guided the team to the required total and a valuable 11 points.
