UPTON Snodsbury celebrated a first cup final success for 74 years when they overcame Ambassador 4-2 to lift the Pershore Hospital Junior Cup in a delayed final at Pershore Town FC.

The Evesham Sunday League side did it the hard way, though, as the league champions took a 2-0 lead.

However, the deficit was halved by the interval after which three more goals ended Upton's long wait for silverware.

The scorers for Upton were Goran Zujovic, who netted twice, Steven Spencer and Kristian Wood.

Club president Len Cottrill missed the final success through illness but he was there back in 1933 when the villagers defeated Wick United 5-3 in that season's Pershore Hospital Cup final staged at the Old Racecourse ground.

The club was formed in 1904, when it played friendly matches against rival villages, and re-entered the Worcester League after the second World War.

Worcester City manager Andy Preece started his playing career at the club that lost in the final of the Bernard Finnegan Cup in 1987 before winning Division Three of the Worcester League 12 months later.

That was followed by the clinching of the second division title in 1992 and the first division crown a year later.

More honours have been pocketed in the last 15 years but the cup final triumph finally saw some knockout silverware in the trophy cabinet.
