WORCESTER'S Les Bailey travelled to Gyor in Hungary as part of the Great Britain team for the annual World Duathlon Age Group Championships and came away with a silver medal.

Competing in the 70-74 year section, Bailey completed the course in a time of two hours 11 minutes two seconds for the classic duathlon race distance of 10km run, 40km bike ride and a final 5km run.

The Worcester Tri Club member was more than pleased to be in the top three as a hip injury has curtailed his training since winning the British Duathlon Championship three weeks ago.

The race was held in the town of Gyor, 120km east of Budapest. Both the run and bike courses were flat but the town streets had tight bends where the race was staged.

The weather was humid with temperatures up to 25C. Almost 1,000 competed from all over the world.

Worcester also had other members competing for GB.

Marc Scriven was delighted with his time of 1.51.23 which gave him 12th place in the 45-49 year category from a field of 50.

Ray Bunn had a good race in a time of 2.18.43 in the 65-69 year category, giving him 10th spot from a field of 22.

Tracey Hall, in her first race at international level, completed a praiseworthy time of 2.22.43 in the female 40-44 year category for 22nd place from a field of 27.

The overall male winner was Paul Amey of GB in 1.40.51. Top woman was Vanessa Fernandes of Portugal in 1.54.06.
