YOUNGSTERS from a Worcestershire village school have won a rugby tournament just months after putting a team together.

Pinvin's St Nicholas CE Mid-dle School's year six rugby team won the Bromsgrove and District Championships at Witton Middle School in Droitwich.

The 12-a-side team, only formed at the beginning of the spring term, won four of their five games and drew the other.

The success owes much to deputy headteacher Jim Kehoe, a former player at Birmingham and Bromsgrove clubs, who coached Broms-grove Colts to the North Midlands finals four times.

Kehoe also enjoyed success at Aston Fields Middle School in Bromsgrove and believes St Nicholas's can go from stren-gtht to strength.

He said: "The boys and girls at Pinvin have great potential and determination and it is an exciting time for me to come in at the outset when all their talent can be developed and unleashed. Rugby is an excellent game, because of the mental side to it."
