DUNCAN MacPherson and James Moverley are the new holders of the prestigious Hogg Bowl at Worcester Golf and Country Club.

The pair defeated Brian Gardiner and current club captain Grenville Rose 3&2 to lift the trophy for the first time.

MacPherson was also in form in the A' team fixture against Kidderminster Golf Club, recording a hole-in-one at the sixth.

The captain's drive-in saw 35 teams compete in a stableford format with the winning team consisting of Paul Massey, Stuart Denyer, Clive Griffin and Jim Fisher, notching 81 points.

In second place - by virtue of the countback system - were Mike Darby, Alan Court-ney, Darren Warner and Rob Henton also with 81 points.

Rose, Steve Blewitt, club pro Graham Farr and John Matthews finished one point behind in third spot.

The two nearest-the-pin contests were won by Micky Rentch at the eighth and Phil Hallett at the 17th. Dick Hans won the longest drive at the seventh with Stuart Band longest on the 18th.

Nick Bennett won Worcester Golf Club's May Thursday medal.

Bennett - playing off 12 - recorded a gross 73, pipping Rob Perrins (11) who also recorded a gross 73. Mark Carpenter (five) was third with a gross 71. Oliver Farr (scratch) recorded the best gross of the day with 67.

In Division Two, Richard Whitmore took the honours with 81-13-68, Richard Jones (85-13-72) was second and A S Byrne (87-15-72) finished in third place.
