OLD Elizabethans suffered their first Birmingham League Division Two defeat of the season when they went down by 11 runs to Penn.

After OEs won the toss and asked Penn to bat, the visitors lost key bowler James Brinkley to injury in the first over.

The hosts reached 20 in just two overs but Matt Sprague and Stuart Lockwood (3-44) put the brakes on.

Jamie Boyle produced a fine run-out and then Stuart Phillips (5-18) reduced Penn to 132-9 before they recovered to make 173.

OEs fell for 162 in reply with only Simon Macey (44), Sean Cairney (34) and Phillips (20) making inroads.

The seconds remain unbeaten at the top of Division Two following a crushing home defeat of Penn.

Penn collapsed for 90 all out in 26 overs with Stuart Tipper taking 4-21 and Sam Schofield collecting his first five-wicket haul for OEs, conceding just 18 runs.

Chris Pearman fell early in the reply but OEs were well placed at 50-2 with Steve Burgoyne making 20.

James Bull (48 not out) played a fluent innings alongside Chris Dale to see the home side through on 92-2.

Meanwhile, Ombersley continued their impressive start in Division Three with a comfortable six-wicket win at Studley.

Neil Slade's effective off-spinners, with Matt Rawnsley providing support, ensured Studley could only offer 173 all out after gliding to 65-1.

Ombersley's fielders dropped three catches but wicketkeeper Joph Young was in form with three stumpings.

Young helped Slade claim 7-45 in 20 overs.

After tea, a miserable drizzle set in for the rest of the game which made life more difficult for the bowlers than batsmen.

Phil Burden (21) and Joey Robinson (50) dominated the bowlers to guide Ombersley to 125-2.

A possible abandonment looked like being the visitors' only problem as Simon Mason crashed six fours in his 35.

The D'Oliveria brothers, Marcus and Brett, steered Ombersley to a comfortable third win from four games in the 38th over.

Ombersley seconds lost at home to Studley by five wickets.

Kidderminster Victoria's Premier Division game with Shifnal was abandoned after the visitors made 263.

Ted Baylis took 3-48 and Jon Miles 3-63 before the heavens opened.
