WORCESTER'S Echelon Cycles team have had a string of good results in time trials with Rob Wood the pick of the bunch.

Wood won the Warwickshire Road Club's 50-mile event near Evesham with a time of one hour 51 minutes and 47 seconds.

In Wales, Paul Dring took second spot in the Brecon 50-mile time trial. His time of 1.54.57 was two minutes down on the in-form winner Dave Birch of Stourbridge.

In the Welsh 25-mile championship race, Wyre Forest's Dave Birch took top spot in a time of 53.04. However, Echelon's Gavin Poupart was snapping at Birch's heels to take third spot just 19 seconds further back.

Team-mate Dave Dickerson took fifth place with a time of 54.02.

Sunday sees the club's first promotion of a mass-start road race. The 79-mile event takes in five laps of a rolling circuit based at Welland in the shadow of the Malvern Hills.

Of the 65 advance entries, top names include GWR's Ben Luckwell, Jon Pain and Grant Bayton. Pain and Luckwell have already shown their form recently by taking first and second in the Worcester St John's road race two weeks ago.

Another rider to watch will be Echelon's own Adrian Bird, who has been quietly bagging placings in recent weeks.
