ANDY Ferrell's decision to sign himself Bobby Robson on a Hereford United shirt has led to an unsavoury end to his time at Edgar Street.

Midfielder Ferrell was not offered a contract by the League Two club for next season but was disappointed manager Graham Turner chose to notify him by post.

Ferrell spent the end of last season on a month's loan at Kidderminster Harriers but returned to Hereford after suffering an abdominal injury.

Following visits to specialists in Manchester and his hometown of Newcastle, Ferrell learned he would not be kept on.

Although not surprised the club opted to dispense with his services, he was upset by the way the situation was handled.

Ferrell said: "I am very disappointed that, after more than 70 games in two years with the club, Graham Turner did not tell me face-to-face or by phone personally.

"It would have been nice if someone from the club had picked the phone up."

But Turner hit back, claiming Ferrell's actions before the last game played a big part in the proceedings.

The United chief, who said the club paid for both of Ferrell's appointments and for a stay at Lilleshall Rehabilitation Centre, was angered by the player faking the signature of the former England manager for charity.

Turner said: "I was not prepared to put myself out for a player who when asked to autograph a ball just before our last match for a charity function, signed himself Bobby Robson."
