WORCESTER Athletics Club members claimed 47 medals at the recent Track and Field County Championships.

They returned from Stourport with 20 golds, 15 silvers and 12 bronzes.

Three out of four of the prestigious county awards for the best display of the day also went to Worcester athletes.

Both the field awards went to high jumpers with under 13s girl Ella Gibbons clearing 1.4 metres and under 15s boy Josh Herbert soaring over 1.72m. Gibbons and Herbert claimed gold medals on the day and new club records.

Another talented athlete Jack Coulter, competing in the under 13s, won the male track award for his 100m time of 13.3 seconds and 200m effort of 27.3. Coulter also won a gold medal for each.

The female track award went to under 13s runner Sarah Stuart-Smith, of Kidderminster and Stourport AC, for her 800m time of two minutes 30.5 seconds.

The male high jumpers performed well with Worcester athletes scooping all the golds. The champions were Coulter with 1.40m claiming his third gold of the day, Herbert, Max Clayton with 1.85m in the under 17s and Andy Ireson with 1.75m in the under 20s.

Herbert was another triple champion with his other triumphs being a long jump of 5.27m and shot putt of 11.23m.

Under 17s girl Jenny White was the double hurdles champion for the 300m, clocking 45.8, and the 80m, finishing in 26.9.

White's 200m win in 26.9 made her the third triple champion from Worcester with all performances also being new club records.

Under 20s runner Michael Simmonds was a double champion, winning the 200m in 23.7 and the 400m in 50.4.

Further titles were won by under 13s boy Oliver Roberts in the long jump, under 17s boy Ryan Upfield in the triple jump and Andrew Reid in the discus.

Under 20s woman Katrina Hart took the 100m, Anais Finck the 200m and senior woman Jodie Ledger the 800m.
