KEVIN Golder's fine form with the bat continued as he struck his second century of the season to steer Barnards Green to victory over Belbroughton.

The 23-year-old engineer smashed an unbeaten 112 - the first time he reached three figures on his own ground - as his side chased down their target of 173 for the loss of just a single wicket.

With the sky turning grey, Golder was determined to pile on the runs quickly on a good batting pitch in the Worcestershire League Division Two home fixture.

His performance was good enough to secure our cricketer of the week award and a £30 voucher to spend at the Fearnley Factory Shop in Worcester.

"I was quite concerned because of the weather," said Golder. "I had to get on with it. I opened my shoulders because I wanted to make sure we won the game.

"I hit 151 against Wormelow at the start of the season and I followed that with scores of 58, 3 and 112 so I am in a bit of form at the moment.

"The wicket was very good on Saturday. It was very much a batter's track. There was very little movement for the bowlers and no spin."

Barnards Green captain Chris Smedley put their opponents into bat and only Gary Day made a substantial contribution before he played on for 112.

Day's wicket was taken by young spinner Andy Ford, who finished with impressive figures of 5-58.

A shower during the tea interval threatened to make things interesting for the Bellbroughton attack but they were unable to make the conditions count in their favour.

Golder hit the winning runs after just 23 overs and his belligerent innings impressed the team's skipper.

"He has been in awesome form this year," said Smedley. "It's his second 100 and he just smashed it everywhere. He is a very good player."

The victory was the third for Barnards Greens this season and puts them in second place in the table - three points behind leaders Lye.

They travel to Oldswinford on Saturday and then play host to Coombs Wood at North End Lane on Bank Holiday Monday.
