WORCESTER Dominies Seconds maintained their impressive early-season form with a comprehensive victory at Ross-on-Wye.

They skittled the Herefordshire side for a meagre 72 runs and then breezed past the total for the loss of just three wickets to claim our team of the week award.

The efforts of the Dominies players earned them a box of six Fearnley cricket balls, worth £90.

It also puts them in second place in Worcestershire League Division Four South with two wins and one game abandoned from their three fixtures so far this season.

The visitors were forced to field a patched-up side, including three 14-year-olds.

Injuries and the unavailability of players meant regular seconds skipper Matthew Gammon was promoted to the firsts but stand-in captain Ian Wilks had little hesitation putting the hosts into bat on a damp wicket.

That decision paid dividends as Ross struggled to come to terms with the conditions.

Medium-pace bowler Wayne Humphries was the main beneficiary as he picked up 4-23 to leave the home side reeling.

Humphries also impressed with the bat.

His unbeaten 68 was remarkable in that he scored 93 per cent of his side's total score and helped them towards a seven-wicket victory.

"The second-highest scorer only managed one," said Wilks. "Wayne came in at number three. It was a wet outfield and he didn't need to do much running between the wickets.

"We had three youngsters playing but some of our older youngsters are doing their A-levels at the moment and will be available soon."

The result leaves Dominies trailing leaders Tenbury by 15 points in the table and they will be looking to close the gap when they play host to basement side Canon Frome on Saturday.
