FATHER-and-son duo Paul and Ashley Bosworth secured the top places in a close Barbourne AC Saturday League match on the club's own pool at Cotheridge.

With less than two carp separating the top four anglers, younger Ashley continued his good run at the venue with a winning 42lb 10oz.

Feeding pellet and offering luncheon meat up in the water on peg seven led to the downfall of around 10 carp, all taken just eight metres from the bank.

Father Paul had to be content with the runner-up prize when he fished meat shallow on peg 14 to end with 39-14.

Club star Craig Davis took third place when he weighed in 39-4, coming to corn and meat presented into the margins on peg 22.

In fourth place with another all-carp net was Phil Holland whose 35-0 fell to pellet and corn on adjacent peg 21.

Dave Wright got back to winning ways when he won another close match on Wards pool with a weight of 25-4 of carp from peg 21 on the pellet.

Runner-up was veteran Hugh Busby with 24-12-0 from his favourite peg 28 and in third place was Leon Elsworth's catch of 23-8-0, taken from peg 15 on corn and meat.

Plough AC fished a memorial match on their pool at Broadheath with Keith Holt winner thanks to a 32-15 net of carp, all taken on cat meat from the margins on peg 27.

Second place went to Steve Thompson with 17-13 from peg seven.

Club stalwart Mike Hope claimed third prize with 15-15 from peg 14 to beat regular winner Nigel Crane, whose 15-10-0 came from permanent 23.

Tony Staite failed in his quest to make the leaderboard when he lost five good carp early on.

The latest Brockamin open result, held on the fisheries top pool, had a familiar ring to it with both end pegs taking the honours.

Top rod on the day was Alan's Tackle man Tony Whitcher who netted three double-figure fish along with smaller samples from peg 32 towards the neck of the pool.

Whitcher favoured rod and line tactics with a waggler set-up and offered sweetcorn on a hair rig to weigh 79-4.

Peg one was where carp ace Greenman angler Rich Brewer took around 10 of his favourite species on paste, weighing in 63-4-0 for second place.

Previous winner John Maloney drew unfancied peg 25 where he netted small fish on the long pole before changing to marginal tactics in order to weigh 57-12.

Mick Turberfield's paste caught a fourth-placed weight of 45-4 came from permanent seven.

Moorlands Farm Saturday Open: 1 M Watson 65-11, 2 D Ravenhall 52-10, S Chester 52-1; Sunday Open: 1 M Tooze 121-7, 2 A Jones 102-13, 3 C Daley 99-15.

Prospects: Warmer weather sees carp cruising in the upper layers where pole or waggler tactics along with meat or corn offered shallow will take fish.

Paste bait is now starting to come into its own but should not be presented too far from the bank in order to build a weight.
