UPTON-upon-Severn will stage the town's first triathlon on Saturday, July 14.

People will be lining up in the River Severn for the start which will be a downstream swim.

It is to be followed by a flat bike route in the surrounding countryside and much of the run is on private farm tracks.

Upton Tri+ is registered with the British Triathlon Federation. Jessica Surman, event organiser of the competition, said: "I'm really excited about Upton Tri+.

"Fish Meadow is adjacent to the town of Upton and is the perfect location for a triathlon.

"Everything from parking and camping to the race itself can be based at one easily accessible location.

"In addition to the race, there will be a post-triathlon barbeque and party in the evening for competitors and supporters. This will be our equivalent to the 19th hole' in golf!

"Anyone can enter young or old, experienced or novice. You can also enter as a relay team of three and complete one discipline each if you don't fancy doing the whole thing.

"Our aim is to make it challenging but fun for all."

The chosen course is anticipated to attract a range of people from seasoned triathletes to total newcomers to the sport.
