SCOTTISH international Dewald Nel has signed a contract with Worcestershire for the remainder of the season.

Nel spent a successful 10-day period with the club, playing in the LV County Championship matches against Yorkshire and Lancashire.

He will remain available to turn out for Scotland in their scheduled one-day internationals against Pakistan on July 1, West Indies on July 12 and India on August 16 as well as the inaugural Twenty20 World Championships in September.

Director of cricket Steve Rhodes said: "Dewald has impressed during the 10 days with us. We have some injury problems in the seam bowling department so his signing can only help us while giving him an opportunity to establish a career in first-class cricket.

"We will work closely with Scottish Cricket to make sure he is available for their major matches."Nel said: "I am delighted to get this opportunity to play first-class cricket and look forward to helping the team have a successful season.

"The arrangement also allows me to continue with my international duties, particularly the Twenty20 competition in South Africa later this summer."
