OLD Vigornians first XI's game at Old Halesonians in Worcestershire League Division Three fell victim to the weather but the two club's seconds teams met at Kings Hawford.

Considering the lack of depth to the OVs seconds' attack and the strength of the opposition, they did remarkably well to bowl the visitors out for 191.

The OVs fielded brilliantly. James Gommersall and Will Kerton held on to difficult high balls in the deep while Dave Mendham and Paul Judge took two catches each at slip and gully respectively.

Kerton, Nic Sproson, and George Blakeway all excelled in the outfield. Mendham bowled a brilliant spell of 23 overs, taking four for 68, and Phil Mackie was persistent at the other end and finished with figures of 6-87.

After losing Judge for a duck, following a thin edge to the wicketkeeper, Sproson and Nick Hodgetts shared a 47-run second-wicket partnership. Hodgetts was in good nick, hitting two towering sixes before he fell for 30.

Sproson followed soon after for 10 and, with Tom Guest out cheaply, the OVs were in trouble.

Blakeway and Gommersall briefly steadied the ship before they fell in quick succession for 13 and 11 to leave OVs teetering at 98-8.

Richard Wilkes turned in one of his best knocks in recent years, making a battling 41 before he missed a straight one.

He shared a ninth-wicket stand of 53 with Mackie, who was 11 not out at the end after Mendham nicked one to the 'keeper, to leave OVs 38 runs short of their target.
