ROOKIE Worcester Warriors’ prop Gareth Milasinovich will learn from his yellow card woes, according to head coach Carl Hogg.

The South African-born academy player picked up his third yellow card in four appearances in Worcester’s 34-22 European Challenge Cup defeat against holders Gloucester.

The tighthead arrived at Sixways in the summer and has played on a dual registration with Championship side Yorkshire Carnegie.

“Gareth is young player coming through the ranks and he hasn’t been exposed to this level of rugby before,” said Hogg.

“He got thrown on against Leicester (in the Aviva Premiership) on his try-line and was five metres out so that yellow card was hardly Gareth’s fault.

“I couldn’t see on the far side in the first half (against Gloucester) but he’s a young player who will learn from the experience and will get better and better.”

Mike Daniels replaced Milasinovich after 57 minutes of the Gloucester defeat and was later driven over for a try.

“We had a couple of young front rows and I thought they did exceptionally well against two international props in Nick Wood and Paul Doran-Jones.

“It’s a learning curve for some of the young players out there and they will all benefit from the experience.”

Warriors’ chances of progressing to the knockout stages of the competition appear slim after their second defeat in three pool games.

Gloucester have taken a firm grip at the top of pool four but Warriors will have a chance to redeem themselves against the Cherry and Whites at Kingsholm next Thursday (7.45pm).

Lock Dan Sanderson left the pitch through injury in the second-half after Rob Cook forced his way past him for a try. But Hogg said Sanderson had passed a head injury assessment.

Hogg added: “I think it will be a similar side (for next week) - we will give the players an opportunity to bounce back.”
