SIAN O’Toole pulled no punches as she made history by becoming the first Droitwich Amateur Boxing Academy fighter to lift a national title.

The 16-year-old stormed to a highly impressive first-round victory as she overwhelmed opponent Ceri-Anne O’Dell, of the Birmingham ABC Boxing Club.

She forced the referee to stop the CYP Championships contest, which was held in Bristol.

O’Toole was on a mission from the first bell as she unleashed a barrage of powerful and perfectly timed punches on her opponent, who had to be given a standing count.

As soon as the referee resumed the bout, more of the same ensued and it was no surprise the fight had to be brought to an early end with O’Dell unable to continue in the face of the Spa boxer’s formidable onslaught.

Droitwich coach Jayson Doyle was understandably thrilled with his fighter’s performance.

“Sian is the real deal,” he said.

“She is an absolute pleasure to coach because she is so dedicated and trains like a professional.

“The sky really is the limit for her and she genuinely has the potential to go all the way.”

For any females wanting to follow O’Toole’s lead, there are ladies-only sessions at the academy’s King George’s Playing Fields gym that combines fitness and boxing training.

They take place from 7.30pm until 8.30pm on Thursdays and 10.30am until 11.30am on Saturdays.
