WORCESTER Reds captain Rachel Sweet has been picked for the Loughborough Lightning squad in the Netball Superleague.

The defensive player will be involved with the Leicestershire team when the season gets under way televised live on Sky Sports on Saturday, January 30.

Genting Arena, Birmingham, hosts the action with Lightning facing Yorkshire Jets.

Other teams involved over 14 rounds and 12 weeks are Celtic Dragons, Hertfordshire Mavericks, Manchester Thunder, Team Northumbria, Team Bath and Surrey Storm.

They will all be aiming to reach the grand final on May 7.

Meanwhile, Reds demonstrated resilience and determination to win a physical England Premier League Two game at Thoroughbreds in Norwich 32-27.

The visitors were two goals up in the first quarter with defender Dani Perry-Huggins restricting the goal shooter's movement and pinning her under the post.

Relentless body contact on Reds' shooters continued through the second quarter and turn-overs allowed bottom-of-the-table Thoroughbreds to take a one-goal lead into half-time.

Tactical changes in the third quarter reshaped the dynamics of Reds with Cathy Bedney bringing a new dimension to the game.

It allowed goal shooter Lucy Herdman to move around the circle and away from the body contact.

The introduction of Hayley Rudd to centre court supported Chloe Burrow and allowed more creative options for Reds as they eventually took the win.

Reds, who are now second in the table, host third-placed Kent County on Sunday at the University of Worcester (12.30pm).
