WORCESTER City were successful when they took amateur fighters to Stoke and Dudley.

Junior George Butler comfortably out-pointed Mitchel Lowe from Tom Lowe ABC in Stoke.

On his own show, the taller Lowe was reluctant to get involved, which allowed the Worcester boxer to ease into the bout without too much trouble.

Without pulling out all the stops, Butler used his jab well to keep the score ticking over.

He sealed the bout in the last round with fast combinations, which left his opponent back-pedalling until the final bell.

Also on the same bill was Worcester cadet Dennis Smith, who faced Joe Kasey, also from the hometown gym of Tom Lowe.

On the back of a recent first-round stoppage, Smith went all out to repeat that performance.

Kasey did not allow Smith to have it all his own way and at times stood toe-to-toe trying to gain the advantage. Although Smith began to tire as the bout wore on, the strength and power from his right hand won through on the day.

He was awarded the bout by way of a unanimous decision.

Schoolboy Leyton Butler put in his best performance in a Worcester vest to beat the taller Tom Conlan, of Brooklands ABC, in Dudley.

Encouraged by local support, Conlan went after Butler with two-punch attacks, which the Worcester boxer met with fast combinations of his own.

Butler remained aggressive throughout the contest, dropping his opponent in the second round with a hard body punch.

He displayed determination on the front foot throughout the third round, connecting with well-timed straight punches to romp home with a unanimous points victory.

This marks a change in fortune for Butler and full credit must go his way for the hard work and desire he has shown in turning his career around.

Schoolboy Ryan Jones, 10, took part in his last skills bouts against Joe Webb, also of Brooklands, on the same show.

Skills contests are designed to allow young boxers to enter the ring and perform without being under the pressure of winning or losing.

Both displayed good skills with the aggressive Worcester fighter having to be told to calm things down by his corner at times.

Jones is a natural fighter and, once inside the ring, he wants to go all out for victory.

After completing four skills contests and turning 11 in the next couple of weeks, he will get his chance to show his full potential.
