PERDISWELL Park Golf Club’s November medal was played out in appalling weather – but that did not stop Phil Kupfer from recording another win.

The seven-handicapper kept his cool in the elements to record 67 nett, which turned out to be the only under-par score on the day.

Kupfer’s handicap was cut to six following his win, which featured 13 pars and one birdie.

Three double bogies on the first, second and 16th holes spoiled his card.

In-form 17-handicapper Adrian Burbridge kept the pressure on Kupfer but could only pull off a tidy but explosive 69 to take second place.

A shaky start did the initial damage but Burbridge made amends with a hole-in-one on the 175-yard, par-three fourth hole.

Following his first ace, Burbridge held his nerve and generated sufficient momentum to maintain his push for the top placings.

Roger Richardson (25 handicap) returned 70 to take third place after his single par on the fourth hole together with a great run of bogies on the back nine edged out John Hine (23) on count-back.

Hine also shot 70 but his early bogey run did not continue and his back-nine tally let him down.

Of the 29 who started, just 18 battled on to finish the 18 holes and record scores.

Round three of the winter league was played on a dismal day that saw everyone glad to reach the final hole.

Steve Williams (7) returned a steady 36 points that included nine pars and two birdies.

Although his scoring was not spectacular, it was clearly considered and got the job done.

Mark Keeling (18) rolled in five pars and one birdie to come home second with a battling 35.

Although his three non-scoring holes – the second, fifth and 18th – put paid to his challenge for top spot, his final tally relegated seniors’ captain Phil Lane into third place on count-back.

Lane (15) could only amass four pars but, by playing bogey golf on 12 holes and only coming to double-bogey grief on another two, he held on two points ahead of Mark Purser (10).

Purser took fourth with six pars and one birdie as 37 players competed in uncomfortable, wintery conditions.
