OLD Elizabethans moved into joint second place in Division Two after demolishing Bridgnorth by 157 runs in a rain-affected match at the Memorial Ground.

Simon Macey top-scored with 72 as OEs were dimissed for 208 before skittling their visitors for just 51, James Brinkley the chief wicker-taker with 5-16.

Bridgnorth won the toss and invited OEs to bat first. The opening pairing of Macey (72) and Jamie Boyle (27) had compiled a solid 80, including a delay for rain, before Boyle was caught behind off Gregory.

Overseas player Sam McNally (23) then added a brisk 56 with Macey.

Jamie Alford (27) helped push the score along but then became the first of Andy Leather's five victims.

With more time lost to rain and needing to push the score to a challenging total, the OEs batsmen appeared to push the self-destruct button.

The hosts contrived to lose six wickets during the final 10 overs of their innings for the addition of just 29 runs with only skipper Sean Cairney (16) reaching double figures.

Leather (5-75) and Sam Whitney (4-45) caused most of the damage although 208 in 44 overs looked set to test the Shropshire side.

Brinkley struck first in reply when he trapped Tom Whitney lbw and Matt Sprague (2-14) helped leave Bridgnorth at 7-3.

Skipper Pete Thompson (12) sought to steady the reply but the OEs bowlers continued to tear through the Bridgnorth batting line-up.

Stuart Phillips (2-3) and Jamie Alford (1-5) efficiently mopped up the tail to leave Bridgnorth all out for 51.

n OEs Seconds played out a losing draw in poor conditions at Cannock.

The visitors won the toss, put Cannock in and had them rocking at 19-3 but they rallied to 172-9.

A fine partnership of 67 between Pete Boyle (54 not out) and Sam Schofield (19) gave OEs a glimpse of victory but they closed on 163-8.
