HAVING been crowned county champion indoors, Tom Brunskill has now been called up to bowl for Worcestershire outdoors.

The 16-year-old Pershore College student only took to the green three years ago when he moved to Evesham after being introduced to the sport by his grandad.

Now, he is the youngest player at the Avon Street Sports Club where he has received excellent support and plenty of coaching from the members.

And their guidance has all proved worthwhile after the teenager, who is studying for a sports diploma, was recently crowned Worcestershire Under 18 champion at Malvern.

That success has prompted a call from the county's Under 25 selectors who have given the Evesham player a place in their squad for this summer's schedule of matches.

n In a rain-affected match, only 15 ends were played in the match between Droitwich Spa and Worcester BC.

Worcester suffered a 36-shot defeat, although they did win two of the five rinks.

The visitors held the home side for the first six ends and only trailed by four shots.

However, over the following four ends, they dropped two sixes and three fours to leave the hosts well ahead. Although Worcester picked up a five on the penultimate end, the home side still ran out easy winners.
