EVESHAM United’s four-match winning streak in Evo-Stik Southern Football League Division One South and West came to an end as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Slimbridge.

The Robins, who face a trip to high-fliers Tiverton Town on Saturday (3pm) before hosting Marlow on Tuesday (7.45pm), fell behind midway through the second half when Paul Fahy struck.

But the home team hit back thanks to a header from skipper Matt Sysum to secure a point, which leaves his side in ninth place in the table.

In a game that took time to get going, Evesham had the better of the first half at the Spiers and Hartwell Jubilee Stadium with Carl Brown and Clayton Green going closest to scoring.

Slimbridge had their best spell of the game early in the second period before Evesham made a triple substitution on the hour mark to try to change things round.

However, it was the visitors who took the lead in the 67th minute when Fahy scored with a shot from the edge of the area.

Evesham responded well and seven minutes later captain and centre-half Sysum scored with a header from close range that just crossed the line despite the best efforts of goalkeeper George Burton.

Evesham: Sawyer, Dovey, Stanley, Williams (Harding 61), Sysum, Wellon, Brown (Sloggett 61), Wood, Mann (Powell 61), Smith, Green. Subs not used: Binns, Wilson.

Attendance: 218.
