MAUREEN Burrows returned from a series of injuries to win her age category at the Stratford 200 Triathlon.

The Worcester Triathlon Club member was not deterred by the wet weather as she impressed at the popular race.

Burrows was pleased with her time of one hour 32 minutes 35 seconds which was enough to take the 60 to 64-year-old age category.

She finished 92nd overall, while Kim Bray clocked 1.34:44 to end up 122nd.

The fastest time from the club's women was by Tracey Hall who managed 1.21:20 and secured second position in the 40 to 44-year-old age category along with 28th out of 240 competitors.

More than 1,400 people entered the race in total which consisted of a 400 metre pool swim, a 20km bike ride and a 5km run on a two-lap circuit.

Later starters had the worst of the weather with torrential rain at times.

At the Hereford Duathlon, a cloudy, overcast dawn soon gave way to a sunny morning, providing competitors with almost perfect racing conditions.

James Ratcliffe, of Black Country Tri, produced a commanding display to win the men's race, finishing almost five minutes ahead of his nearest rival.

Marianne Day, of Worcester Triathlon Club, won a competitive female event which saw only 58 seconds between the top-three finishers.

After leaving the transition area at the end of the 5km run in fifth position, Day worked hard on the bike to take the lead, gaining a two minute advantage on her rivals going into the final 5km run.

Day ran well to hold her position ahead of Lorna Shaw and Helen Russell. It was a double victory for the Day family as her father Roger had a fantastic race, winning the super veteran category and finishing an impressive 16th overall.

He finished the first 5km run in 20:52 before a solid bike and final run extended his lead to more than a minute ahead of fellow competitor Dave Rees.

Worcester's Duncan Jubb was 22nd in 1.40:27 and Ray Bunn finished 37th in 1.49:52.

Five junior members of the Worcester club were among more than 140 competitors in the annual Warwickshire Aquathlon at Shipston.

A strong run saw Jubb move through the field from sixth to win the boys' TriStar three category for 13 to 14-year-olds.

Jessica Wheatley, in her first race back after missing much of the past year, exited the swim level with another competitor.

Wheatley was able to pull away on the run to achieve second place in the youth category.

Helen Jubb, Alicia Green and Liam Tustin each gave strong showings following a move up in age category to achieve fourth, seventh and eighth places respectively in large fields.
