ENTERPRISING batting and excellent bowling was the key to Martley seconds' huge 169-run win over Old Vigornians seconds in Worcestershire League Division Three.
The majority of the Martley players contributed to the fine win and their efforts have been recognised with our Team of the Week award.
They win a box of six Fearnley cricket balls, worth £90.
The village side lost the toss and were asked to bat.
Tight bowling restricted the visitors to a slow start as they struggled to 19-1 after 11 overs but, as the conditions became more batsmen-friendly, the Martley line-up began to fire.
Scott Morris batted adventurously and scored boundaries all around the wicket on his way to a top score of 90, while Chris Collins added a chanceless 59.
The middle-order also conributed to Martley's cause and the OVs bowlers had no answer as the away team reached 267-6 from their 45 overs. As the OV batsmen set about the task of chasing down such a formidable target, they were faced with the on-the-spot bowling of Martley's seamer George Rudd.
The bowler consistently put the ball on a good line and length, creating doubt in most of the home batsmen's minds. The hosts had no answer to Rudd's accuracy and he returned spectacular figures of 15 overs, 10 maidens, 7-7, as the OVs were skittled for just 98 runs.
Martley picked up the maximum 24 points available for their splendid performance and moved up to second in the Division Three table, just two points behind the early leaders Old Halesonians.
