DOUBLE Olympic gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes paid a flying visit to Droitwich Spa High School today.
Holmes, 37, arrived by helicopter from London to visit the specialist sports college to mark the first anniversary of her appointment as National School Sport Champion.
During her trip, she watched youngsters from the school and its feeder middle schools in badminton and table tennis contests organised by pupils.
She also took time out to speak to teenagers involved with various sports projects and praised the Briar Mill school for its efforts in physical education.
The winner of the 800 metres and 1,500m in Athens in 2004 said: "It's been great to be able to come here to see the sports festival that they've put on.
"I think they were all really enthusiastic about sport at this school in particular and I really like the links they have got with the leisure centre and the work they do with the young sport leaders. This school has done a really good job."
