IN a rain-hit weekend in the Worcestershire County League, Old Vigornians seconds suffered by being able to play their Division Three game.

The OVs were comfortably beaten by Martley seconds, picking up just two points for their poor peformance.

However, with the majority of the other fixtures in the division washed out, the six other sides who didn't play were awarded five points each. The result saw OVs slip to sixth place in the table.

Having won the toss and put the visitors in to bat at their King's Hawford pitch, the OVs failed to capitalise on a good start which saw Martley struggling on 19-1 from 11 overs.

Though Phil Mackie took 3-44 from 15 overs and Paul Judge picked up two wickets, Martley posted a formidable 267-6 off their 45 overs.

Martley's Scott Morris hit an excellent 90, while Chris Collins added 59.

Only three OV batsmen made it into double figures in the home side's reply.

Judge hit two sixes in his 13 and Tim Whitehouse hung around to make 14, while Tom Guest top-scored with 39.

The hosts were dismissed for just 98 to give Martley a comprehensive 169-run victory.

George Rudd took 7-7 from 15 overs as the OVs batted poorly against his nagging line and length.

The first XI's game away at Martley was rained off without a ball being bowled.

However, the firsts did not benefit from having their game abandoned as most of the other sides managed to play.

As a result the OVs slipped to ninth in Division Three.
