IN a rain-affected Birmingham League Premier Division game, Kidderminster Victoria could not score sufficient runs to beat Barnt Green.

The Chester Road outfit had to settle for a losing draw as they reached 91-6 from 25 overs in response to the Green's 190-8 from 35 overs.

Batting first home side Barnt Green could only score eight runs from the first four overs, but soon got into their stride with 67 coming off the next 10.

Home opening batsmen Hall and G Shephard had scored 64 when Ted Baylis had the latter caught by Sean Lloyd for 49.

S Shephard had not scored when 'keeper Josh Knappett caught him off Jonathan Miles' bowling.

With the score on 75, the Baylis-Lloyd duo combined again to dismiss Hall for 24.

Dougie Brown, the former Warwickshire player, had only scored three when Miles bagged his second wicket.

Nathan Newport and Simon Froggatt hoisted the score to 170 before Baylis claimed his third wicket by virtue of a Phil Shaw catch that saw the departure of Froggatt for 40.

Jones, Illingworth, Ahmed and Mann only contributed nine runs between them, but Newport was unbeaten on 56 at the close of the innings.

Baylis took 5-99 from 17 overs and Miles picked up 2-53. The Kidderminster innings started well with Jonathan Wright and Mark Mansell putting on 51 before Mansell was caught for 37.

Craig Wood was out for two as was Knappett, with Brown claiming both wickets.

At 78-3 KVCC lost skipper Wright, bowled by Richard Illingworth, for 21. With Baylis and Andrew Siwicki unable to repeat last week's batting efforts, Kidderminster's hopes faded.

A brighter day could have produced a happier result, but the bowling of Brown (3-46) Illingworth (2-14) and Ahmed (1-23) kept KVCC under control.
