MOEEN Ali is delighted with the way his move from Warwickshire to Worcestershire has turned out so far.

The England Under 19 batsman, who switched Edgbaston for New Road during the closed season, has settled in well at his new county.

The Ali family has close ties with New Road as Moeen's cousin Kabir is a well-established player and his brother Kadeer spent several seasons with the club before looking for pastures new with Gloucestershire.

Left-handed batsman Moeen said: "I felt that Warwickshire were a little bit unsure as to what they wanted from me.

"I didn't have any problems there, but I wasn't enjoying my cricket like a 19-year-old should.

"I just thought that for my long-term development Worcestershire would be the best place for me to come and play my cricket.

"I had a few offers, but Worcestershire was the only place I was going to go to.

"It is quite local for me and the club is like one big family and it is good to be part of that.

"Obviously my family have strong links with Worcestershire and I have settled in really well since I moved here."

Moeen is looking to put pressure on the first team regulars for their place in the side, but is happy to bide his time.

He said: "I want to break into the first team - and stay in it - as soon as I can but, that said, I am still young and am happy playing in the seconds.

"I just want to try and score as many runs as I can and wait for my chance to come along. I am learning so much about my batting from the likes of Graeme Hick, Vikram Solanki, Ben Smith and Phil Jaques.

"I think I probably have the best chance of breaking into the one-day squad before the championship team, but the top six is pretty settled at the moment.

"It all depends on what the coach wants."
