Fast bowler Tim Bresnan led the way with three wickets in four balls as Yorkshire charged to victory by an innings and 260 runs over Worcestershire on the final day of the LV County Championship match at Headingley Carnegie.

It was Yorkshire's third success in four matches and it took them back to the top of the First Division table.

Worcestershire were already up against it at the start of the day when they resumed their second innings on 29 for one and still needing 363 to make Yorkshire bat again.

Only five runs had been added when former Yorkshire batsman Phil Jaques survived a difficult chance to Younus Khan at second slip off Matthew Hoggard. But the Australian and skipper Vikram Solanki began to settle in and it was not until Bresnan replaced Darren Gough that things started to happen.

Jaques, who had faced 80 balls without hitting a boundary in his 21, attempted to pull Bresnan to the fence and was athletically caught by Adil Rashid at mid-wicket and Ben Smith bagged a pair as Bresnan trimmed his off-bail with the next ball.

Graeme Hick survived the hat-trick but edged his second delivery low to second slip where Younus Khan clung on to a smart catch and Worcestershire had slumped to 49 for four.

They hit more trouble nine runs later when leg-spinner, Rashid, had Solanki picked up at silly point by Jacques Rudolph and Bresnan struck again when Gareth Batty hit a catch to Craig White at point to give Bresnan excellent figures of 9-6-9-4.

Rashid switched ends and in the final over before lunch he bowled a leg-break to Roger Sillence who edged it to Anthony McGrath at slip, leaving Worcestershire on 89 for seven at the interval.

Steven Davies and Kabir Ali resisted for 35 minutes after the break and took the score to 120 before Rashid claimed two wickets in two balls by hitting Davies' leg-stump with a ball which drifted across the left-hander and then having Nadeem Malik caught at second slip by Younus Khan.

Worcestershire debutant Dewald Nel survived the hat-trick ball but the end was not long in coming because Younus Khan joined the attack and soon had Kabir Ali caught at short leg by Joe Sayers.

Bresnan and Rashid each finished with four wickets as Yorkshire took maximum points from the match.
