REIGNING under 13s champions Worcester Nomads began their under 14s season with a convincing six-wicket win over Kidderminster in a friendly match.

Edward Franklyn hit an unbeaten 37, John Rowan scored 25 and Ryan Field added 10 as Kidderminster posted 100-9 off 20 overs.

Nomads' pace attack was despatched to the boundary but controlled slow bowling from Peter Preston (2-17), Patrick O'Driscoll (2-11) and Neils Emmerson (0-11) limited Kidderminster's scoring.

Tom Mills (29), James Doorbar (30 retired) and Anthony Fahy (11 not out) led Nomads' reply. J Worton took two wickets for four runs but Nomads won, reaching the Kidderminster total in 14 overs for the loss of four wickets.

Four days later, the Nomads boys met Dominies in their first county league fixture of the season. Dominies won the toss and chose to bat and Chris Holtom batted well in difficult conditions for an unbeaten 22 but his fellow batsmen found it difficult to score and were all out for 55 in 18 overs. Alex Williams was the pick of the Nomads attack with 1-3 from four overs, while Ben Warren (3-10) and Peter Preston (3-8) also impressed.

The Nomads batsmen found the light poor and Assam Fiaz (2-13) reduced them to 24-2 in the fifth over.

However, Alex Williams (17 no) and James Doorbar (13) batted well and reached the victory total inside 12 overs.

Following their seven wicket victory at home to Dominies, the under 14s continued their unbeaten start to the season with a comprehensive 10-wicket win at Old Elizabethans. Stand-in captain Alex Williams took 3-1 and Toby Wilkinson claimed 2-4, as OEs collapsed to 24 all out.

Nomads' opening batsmen Sam Clements (eight no) and Fahy (12 no) completed the win in 3.2 overs.

The Nomads' under 12s were also successful, beating Malvern by 74 runs.

Nomads were given a solid start by Jamie Fern and Harry Williams (30 retired).

The good work was continued by Ali Hunt (30 retired), Ben Rattue (13), Tom Webb (25) and Andy Woodyatt (10no).

Nomads finished their 20 overs on 143-4. Malvern also started well through Kieran Smith and Elliott Hennessy (30 retired), but were given little support from their team.

The Nomads bowlers bowled tightly with Ryan Gwilliam (1-10), Rattue (1-5) and Harry Williams (2-1) taking the wickets. Malvern finished their 20 overs on 69-5 giving Nomads victory by 74 runs
