WORCESTERSHIRE have moved to ease their current fast-bowling crisis by signing Scottish international Dewald Nel in time for tomorrow's LV County Championship Division One clash with Yorkshire at Headingley.

The County, hit by injuries to key bowlers Doug Bollinger (side and hip strain) and Matt Mason (shoulder), have struggled to bowl sides out so far this season.

Therefore, director of cricket Steve Rhodes has brought in right arm medium-fast bowler Nel, who is currently enjoying an excellent season with Scotland in the Friends Provident Trophy on a short-term basis.

The 26-year-old, who will also be available for the County's championship match with Lancashire that starts at Old Trafford on Tuesday, has signed for a 10-day period.

Steve Rhodes said: "Our seam bowling resources are severely stretched so we needed to find more cover.

"Dewald has played some second XI cricket for us and has performed really well for Scotland this season."

Fellow seam bowler Nadeem Malik also has a niggling shin problem, but he has been named in the side to take on Yorkshire.

Rhodes added: "Doug still isn't quite fit enough to play, but we are hopeful he will be available for Sunday's Friends Provident Trophy game.

"Nadeem has a couple of little injuries, but will be OK to play.

"It is very rare for a professional cricketer to go into any contest fully fit - you are always carrying some kind of niggle."

With England captain Michael Vaughan suffering a broken finger playing for Yorkshire against Hampshire, Craig White's return to open the batting is likely to be the only change from the team that drew at the Rose Bowl. Bowler Deon Kruis is still out with a hamstring strain.

Meanwhile, the trip to Headingley will see overseas star Phil Jaques, who found top form with an excellent 113 against Notts on Sunday, return to the home of one of his former clubs.

The Aussie left-hander, who spent two successful seasons with the White Rose county before making way for Darren Lehmann's return, is looking forward to renewing acquaintances.

He said: "Yorkshire has been a happy hunting ground for me - I really enjoyed playing there and it will be good to go back and see some familiar faces. Hopefully, I can make them pay for letting me go.

"They've been flying so far this year, so it will be a really firm test for us. Hopefully, we can do our things right and make plenty of runs for our bowlers to bowl at."
