RICHARD Jones has spoken of his pride at making his County Championship debut for Worc-estershire and is now focusing on forcing his way into the side on a regular basis.
The 20-year-old seamer, who missed all of last season with a double stress fracture to his back, came in to the County team to play Warwickshire last week after Doug Bollinger was ruled out with a hip problem.
Jones, who toured Bangladesh with the England Under 19s prior to his injury, said: "It was a great honour to get out there and play for my County - I've been with Worcestershire since I was 10 and it has always been a dream for me to play for them.
"Now I want to stay in the side and play as much cricket as I can.
"It has been amazing so far - I had a few nerves flying around first thing on Wednesday morning, but I've settled into it quite nicely now.
"I didn't feel nervous when I was bowling, which is why I was a little disappointed because I know I can bowl better than that. Obviously in a local derby against Warwi-ckshire I was desperate to do well and it was certainly very nice when I saw Jonathan Trott's middle stump go flying out of the ground.
"It was a great feeling to get my first wicket, but I was a bit disappointed with the way I bowled after that. Hopefully this will be my breakthrough season. I want to force my way into the first team and play as many games as I can and do well for the side. If not, I'll keep working hard and bide my time and try and take my chance when it comes."
Injuries have meant a stop-start nature to Jones' fledgling career, but the youngster spent part of the winter at the Dennis Lillee bowling academy in India and feels he has learnt a lot.
He said: "The injury was a set-back and it did get me down. I was sent home from the England tour after about a month so I had a long time doing nothing and it was very frustrating.
"Over the winter, I went away to Dennis Lillee's academy for a couple of weeks and he gave me a few things to work on, which was a great experience.
"I've been working hard on my action and it is looking quite good now and I want to maintain that.
"After my injuries from the last couple of years, I'm just pleased my body has held up so far and I'm feeling fit and strong. I'm ready for the season and I want to do well for the lads if I get picked again."
