OLD Elizabethans got their Birmingham League Division Two campaign off to a flying start with a resounding six-wicket win over Aston Unity at the Memorial Ground.
Skipper Sean Cairmey won the toss and put the visitors in.
James Brinkley (1-29) struck with the first ball when he had Nicholds caught behind and Matt Sprague (1-19) removed Matharu just 11 runs later.
With the total on 142, Dargan became the first of Sam McNally's four victims, the same bowler having Aston's captain Cooke caught at mid-on next ball.
None of the batsmen were able to support Salim Malik, the last batsman out, having scored 101 off just 128 balls.
In reply, OEs got off to an excellent start as Simon Macey (76) and Jamie Boyle (44) compiled a 122-run opening partnership in 24 overs.
After the departure of Boyle, McNally (18), Jamie Alford (22) and Andy Hemming (23 not out) saw the hosts past their target with 24 overs to spare.
OEs second XI won a dramatic reverse fixture by nine runs with just two balls to spare at Aston Unity in which eighteen-year-old James Bull smashed a maiden century of 109no.
Meanwhile, Bromsgrove were beaten by five wickets at Leamington Spa. Chasing 149-5, the visitors were all out for 146 with Alex Kervezee making 44.
