WORCESTERSHIRE might not lose Australian batsman Phil Jaques for the final month of the season after all.
In September, Australia's one-day side is scheduled to play three one-day internationals in Zimbabwe, followed by the Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa from September 11-24, but the Australian Government says it will pay any fine incurred if Cricket Australia decides to cancel the Zimbabwe tour for political reasons.
Prime Minister John Howard, a strong critic of the regime of President Robert Mugabe, said it would be unfair for Cricket Australia to have to pay a fine of up to £860,000 to the International Cricket Council.
