JERMAINE Clarke's extra-time winner sent Bromsgrove Rovers storming up to the Southern League Premier Division.

Substitute striker Clarke struck on 111 minutes of Saturday's play-off final after Sam Allsop's second-half effort had cancelled out Craig Gregg's opener for Willenhall.

The final whistle sparked scenes of jubilation not witnessed at the Victoria Ground in many years as hundreds of fans invaded the pitch to see Rod Brown's team collect the Division One Midlands runners-up trophy.

Rovers, who lost at the same stage to Evesham two years ago, did not have it all their own way in a nerve-shredding contest.

With the stakes so high, errors began to creep in and tempers frayed as the match drew nearer its conclusion.

The hosts created two early opportunities with Nathan Lamey having a shot blocked by a defender and Wayne Dyer firing over inside the first 10 minutes.

But Willenhall also threatened in a lively start on a bone-dry surface and took the lead with 15 minutes on the clock.

Pat Bannister lofted the ball over on-rushing goalkeeper Danny Crane from the right-hand edge of the penalty area and Gregg headed it over the line from point-blank range as Chris McHale attempted to clear.

Rovers, forced to replace the injured Dyer with Paul Lloyd on the half-hour, were level within two minutes of the re-start.

Allsop gathered the ball around 25 yards from goal and beat Coleman with a speculative left-foot effort.

The hosts were now in the ascendancy and had chances to finish Willenhall off.

Lamey was unlucky not to net a rebound after Chris Cotterill's close-range shot had been saved by Coleman on 51 minutes and Kevin Banner and Lloyd also went close with volleys.

Adam Cain and Todd Perry were both booked inside 60 seconds for Willenhall as the game went into extra-time.

The occasion seemed to be getting to the players in the first period with neither team able to carve out any clear-cut openings.

Willenhall substitute An-thony Newton forced Crane to hold onto his strike barely two minutes before Clark won it for Rovers.

Lloyd, hard-working thr-oughout, played the striker in and the former Redditch and Evesham marksman beat Coleman low to his right to send the home fans into raptures.
