WE can definitely do well in the Friends Provident Trophy this season.

Alright, we lost against Leicestershire at the weekend but we are going pretty well and I'm sure we'll bounce back from the defeat.

Our form at the end of last season in this competition was good and obviously winning against Lancashire in our first game has set the tone.

While Ben Smith, Steve Davies and Gareth Batty would have liked to have been around at the end, finishing off Sunday's game, at least it was still there for us to win.

I'm sure the likes of Roger Sillence, Kabir Ali and the other guys who go in towards the end will finish on the winning side more often than not this season.

Leicestershire fought hard, bowled pretty well, fielded really well and deserved their victory.

Don't get me wrong, there were a few good performances individually from some of our bowlers, but we tend to take things on the chin as a team.

There is a group of bowlers as well as a group of fielders and batters, so we're not going to name individuals, we'll just accept we could have bowled and batted better as a unit.

At the half-way stage of their innings, Leicestershire were going nicely but, to our credit, we got it back to a total I thought we could definitely achieve.

We kept their score down to around 230 when it looked like they would get more - that was a chance for us to try and get on and nail the win.

However, we failed to execute some shots properly early on which cost us wickets but, having said that, sometimes the pressure you are put under by the opposition can create that.

We do it ourselves to a lot of the teams we play against. When we are defending a score, we tend to build up the pressure which causes batsmen to panic.

Leicester took two or three good catches and I know it's an old cliche, but catches do win matches.

The one HD Ackerman took to get Davies out was a crucial one, because he was playing particularly well at the time.

Smith had also played well earlier. He and Steve ran particularly well between the wickets and put Leicester-shire's fielders under pressure which is an important part of their batting plans for one-day cricket.

It was nice to see them forge a good partnership.

Also, when Batty and Sillence were together, there was still a chance for us to win. To finish in the manner we did, losing wickets very quickly, was disappointing.

But, to be fair to them, Leicestershire bowled very effectively and deserved the win.

Obviously we didn't start as well as we could have with the bat, but Davo' and Ben fought back beautifully and put us in a position to win.

We'll learn from it and move on - we've got Nottinghamshire coming up this weekend and it promises to be a big game.
