GRAHAM Turner can have a major say in the League Two play-offs when Hereford United host Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.

After looking odds-on to clinch a top-seven place, Shrewsbury have slipped up with Bristol Rovers and Peterborough gaining ground following the Shropshire side's 1-0 defeat to Wrexham on Tuesday.

With a large following expected for the crunch clash which has a noon kick-off, there will be an edge to the match for the Bulls despite them having nothing to play for in the league table.

Their one-game revival, which saw them end a nine-game winless streak with a 3-0 win over Boston, was halted by a 3-0 reverse at Peterborough last Saturday.

The Edgar Street club, currently 16th in the table having once harboured hopes of a play-off place, received a further setback this week when their normally flawless discipline was called into question.

Following defender Dean Beckwith's sending-off for a professional foul at Walsall earlier this month, the Football Association charged Hereford with failing to control their players, a charge they have since admitted.

Beckwith is back on Saturday after a two-game ban, while there is a forward spot up for grabs after Steve Guinan's return to Cheltenham Town following a seven-goal loan spell.

Marcus Palmer is itching for a first league start but Andy Williams, Alan Connell, Tim Sills and Stuart Fleetwood are also competing for a place.

Turner will be hoping Simon Travis has recovered from an ankle injury that kept him out at Peterborough.

The Edgar Street match will be the fifth meeting between the two clubs this season with the first game in the Johnstone's Paints Trophy finishing 2-1 to the Shrews.

Hereford defeated Gary Peters' side 2-0 in an FA Cup first round replay at home on November 21 after the original tie had ended goalless.

But the Shrews exacted revenge on their rivals by beating them 3-0 at Gay Meadow on December 16, in which former Burnley striker Andy Cooke scored twice.

After the Wrexham defeat, Shrews manager Peters said: "We can't sulk too long. We've got to let the disappointment sink in and then use it to make sure that we win against Hereford.

"We've got to get on with it. We've got two games left that we need to win."

Long-term knee injury victim Ben Herd will definitely miss the game for the Shrews, while fellow defenders Lee Canoville (Achilles) and Danny Hall (hamstring) are struggling.
