MANAGER Andy Preece is rueing missed opportunities as Worcester City prepare for Saturday's showdown at Harrogate Town.
Victory, coupled with re-sults going their way, would see City secure fifth place, a position that looked unthinkable a few weeks ago.
However, the odds are still against the St George's Lane club and Preece knows they could have made the situation easier for themselves in recent matches.
He said: "I never stopped believing. I knew it would take a funny set of results for us to be involved but I looked at the fixtures that we had and I felt that we could win them all.
"We should have done better against Nuneaton and we could have beaten Gainsborough so we should probably be in pole position for the play-off place rather than playing catch-up."
Confidence is high in the Worcester camp following Saturday's action-packed 2-0 victory against Hucknall Town.
Although only three points will do, Preece is aware the trip to fellow play-off hopefuls Harrogate is a different proposition.
He said: "We've looked dangerous going forward but it's a different story playing away from home against a team who are also going for the play-offs.
"We don't want to concede early and then have an uphill battle. They'll be nervous, so maybe we'll go for the throat while they're nervous and feeling their way. There's lots of little permutations we could go with but we've got to go for the win."
n Richard Bentley has re-signed as a director at Worcester City, citing personal reasons.
He had held the post for two years.
