HARRIERS manager Mark Yates was fuming after another below-par performance ag-ainst Morecambe in his side's last home fixture of the season.

A penalty from Garry Th-ompson settled the match before half-time and Harriers couldn't make all their possession count.

Goalkeeper Scott Bevan was sent off after committing the foul for which the spot-kick was awarded.

"It was definitely a penalty and was probably a sending-off," said Yates. "I haven't got a problem with that."

"It's what happened before that - our defending was poor, just like our performance in general. I'm bitterly disappointed.

"I feel the players have let the fans down and I don't say that too often.

"We were still in the dressing room and our heads were elsewhere, I knew after two minutes we'd get beat, I didn't fancy us at all.

"It looks like we're just going to see the next two games out now which is bitterly disappointing."

Brian Smikle's extended run in the Kidderminster side continued but even he was unable to create a spark.

Thompson was Morecambe's best player and might have given the visitors the lead with an effort on goal after 16 minutes.

Harriers once again failed to find the net on their own ground and their only league goal at home since early March was when they scored through an own goal against Halifax Town late last month.

Simon Russell wasted two first-half chances but the lead was taken by the Shrimps thr-ee minutes before the break.

Thompson found himself one-on-one with Bevan but was felled in the area by the Harriers keeper.

Referee Andrew Rodda had no hesitation in pointing to the spot and showing Bevan a straight red card.

Bevan must now wait for the FA's judgement to see wh-ether he faces a lengthy suspension which would rule him out of the FA Trophy final at Wembley on May 12.

Thompson made no mistake with the spot-kick as he drove it past substitute goalkeeper Steve Taylor.

Taylor produced one first-class save in the second period as Thompson was allowed to unleash a volley at goal.

Morecambe 'keeper Steven Drench spilled an 87th-minute corner but, as the ball fell to Gavin Hurren, the midfielder could only snatch at his effort and fire over the bar.

Harriers finish the season with away games at Grays Athletic and Crawley Town.

"That's where we'll be OK," added Yates. "Maybe we've got to go on a three-hour coach journey before we play our home games. We've got to do something.

"There's no other word for Saturday other than disappointing - I expect a damn sight better out of my players."
