TWO goals in the space of three minutes early in the second-half wrapped up three crucial points in Evesham's push for a play-off spot.

Lowly Rovers had made life difficult for the Robins in the opening 45 minutes but, once Steve Lutz and Mark Owen had found the net, it was plain sailing for Paul West's men.

The Bedfordshire side took advantage of hesitancy at the back that allowed Stuart Str-ange to beat Karl Lewis from 18 yards with only three minutes on the watch.

However, United were level within 10 minutes when Steve Duncan controlled Simon Fitt-er's dead-ball kick before volleying into the Barton goal.

The scorer and Owen both spurned great chances to give Evesham the interval lead, while Rovers were dangerous in attack but looking decidedly dodgy at the back.

And that deficiency was capitalised on after 47 minutes when skipper Lutz headed in Fitter's free-kick from eight yards.

Two minutes later and Owen nutmegged a Barton defender who tripped the former Wor-cester City man.

Owen dusted himself down before calmly stroking the ball into the corner of the goal.

Liam Daly cleared a rare home effort off the line on the hour but goalkeeper Lewis was a virtual spectator in the second period when the visitors produced some controlled passing play.

Duncan and Daniel Lennon both went close to adding to Evesham's tally but the victory leaves the winners firmly in control of their own destiny ahead of next weekend's final league game at home to Leigh-ton Town.
