ALEX Mortimer hopes his Dodge Viper's 8.3-litre engine can power him to victory in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship at Donington Park this weekend.
The Hallow 22-year-old is up against a field of dream cars with Aston Martins, Ferraris, Porsches and Ascaris joining him on the grid.
Mortimer will bid for a performance break from the sport's governing body after the category's handicapping formula seemed to hamper his display at Oulton Park.
The talented Team RPM driver managed to haul the weight-penalised V10 racing machine to third place in round two, despite tricky conditions.
Of his and team-mate Bradley Ellis' prospects, Mortimer said: "Brad and I are hoping that we get a break on the performance front for this weekend.
"All the cars in our category are equalised by the FIA to make it a level playing field, but unfortunately they have gone a little far in slowing the Viper down.
"We're hoping to get our weight and ride height penalties reduced slightly so that we can battle the other guys properly.
"The Ferrari F430 was the car to beat and the Aston DBRS9s were also quick last time out so that is the pace we will be aiming for."
