MATT Nicoll-Jones made a triumphant return to the Texaco Havoline Ginetta Sportscar Championship at Oulton Park.
The 21-year-old, who owns and runs Academy Motorsport in Pershore, qualified second in his borrowed Ginetta car from a field of 40 cars.
Nicoll-Jones, the 2005 champion, went on to win the first round in front of thousands of motorsport fans.
Academy Motorsport driver Mark Wania finished a creditable 10th in the slippery conditions.
The championship runs alongside the Formula Three and GT races this year and will be televised on Sky TV later this month.
The next round is at the A1 GP round at Brands Hatch on April 28 and 29.
