ONE of Europe's most successful triathlon teams has snapped up Malvern teenager Rhys Davey.
The 15-year-old is the latest member of the Tri-UK Gatorade group and will represent their sponsors in a series of national races this season.
Davey was delighted with the team's offer as he joins the home of Olympic, world and national champions. They will provide him with help and specialised equipment.
Team manager Alison Boon said: "Every year the team looks stronger and stronger.
"Rhys was a natural choice when we were selecting our team for 2007.
"We have grown it to a 60-plus strong team which is now the envy of the triathlon world.
"Rhys' dedication means that he was an obvious choice for the team. We are looking forward to a year of success together."
Davey, one of the youngest on the team, joined his colleagues at their launch in Yeovil, Somerset.
They swam in the Tri-UK Rapid River Indoor Pool, where Davey tested out his Foor wetsuit.
He said: "This is an absolutely great start for me. The support Tri-UK, together with all their sponsors, are going to give me this season is a fantastic boost.
"Apart from all the specialised triathlon kit from Tri-UK's sponsors, I have been given a Cannondale bike for the season to help me train and compete on. I hope I will do my very best for the team."
Meanwhile, Worcester Triathlon Club will hold their first Try-a-Tri' day on Saturday, April 14, at the RNIB College, Whittington Road.
The event is designed for eight to 16-year-olds and takes place from 10am until 2pm.
The Try-a-Tri' Day will be led by the counties' top sports coaches and will finish with a mini-aquathon. There will be an annual children's duathlon in June.
Organiser Steve Lloyd said: "We hope that although there will some serious elements to the day, it will be good fun for those involved.' Worcester have nearly 100 members across all ages and abilities and weekly coached sessions for youngsters are planned across all disciplines.
Further information is available by calling Lloyd on 07795-342639.
