WORCESTER City ABC lightweight Kofi Ahmed recorded his first victory by beating Lye's Alan Lysaght at a Cradley show.
Coming into the ring with a string of split decision defeats behind him, Amhed was determined to put an end to this losing steak.
He started the first round with his usual two-fisted attack but was guilty of not keeping his gloves up.
This prompted Lysaght into a barrage of straight punching which resulted in Ahmed visiting the canvas for an eight count.
Ahmed's rough house tactics began to wear down the sharper-punching Lye boxer but Lysaght went into the third with a commanding lead.
Then the Worcester fighter produced an almost non-stop attack which lasted most of the round.
Not all of Ahmed's punches found their target with some crashing into his opponent's arms and shoulders.
At the bell, he got the nod from the judges on a close split decision.
Light welterweight Dave Cuss produced his best performance to date by beating Luke Evans, of Old Hills, on a unanimous points margin.
Boxing behind a fast left jab, Cuss scored well against the oncoming Evans.
Straight-punching Cuss won every round in a controlled performance against a boxer who refused to take a step backwards.
Positive boxing from Cuss, coupled with the right approach, is reflecting on his record with this contest being his third victory in the space of two months.
Middleweight Darrel Davies was beaten on points by Adam Butler, of William Perry ABE, in a hard-fought contest.
Davies started each round well but was guilty of inactivity in the latter stages which was to be his undoing.
He scored well with double jabs but was unable to keep pace with the more determined Butler.
