EVESHAM United manager Paul West wants his players to prove they are good enough for promotion.

West watched his side reach the Worcestershire Senior Cup final on Wednesday with a 2-1 victory at landlords Worcester City.

But they return to Southern League Division One Midlands action on Saturday with a tough looking match against high-flying Stourbridge at St George's Lane (3pm).

The Robins, who have enjoyed good runs in both the FA Cup and FA Trophy this season, are currently six points shy of the play-off zone.

Boss West said: "Stourbridge are third in the league and have been up there all season.

"It's another opportunity to show our credentials. It's an opportunity to pit our wits against somebody in the play-offs.

"We have still got a fighting chance of reaching the play-offs.

"You have got to be good enough to go up and, at the minute, although I believe we have the potential to be good enough, we have not proved it."

Evesham, who have yielded five points from their last three league fixtures, go into the match full of confidence after beating a strong City side.

West said: "I am proud of the players, they worked really hard.

"I was surprised at the strength of the side Worcester put out so that made it better for us because you don't want to be in a competition playing against reserve team players."

He added: "No matter what the result you always try to do things the right way and that win has given us a great opportunity to win some silverware.

"We have had a good run in the cups and ultimately you want to get something out of it."

Loanee Troy Wood and Shane Benjamin return to the side tomorrow but there are doubts over groin injury victim Mark Hands and Steve Hands, who has a knee problem.

West also hopes to have signed former Rushall right-sided player Ross Evans in time for the weekend and is battling Willenhall for Bromsgrove Rovers midfielder Liam McDonald.
